About & Contact

Hi and welcome to My Little Expat Kitchen.

I'm Magdalini. I am from Greece, born and bred in Athens, and for the last three four five six seven eight nine ten years I have been living in The Hague, Netherlands with my also Greek boyfriend, S.

I love food and I have a passion for cooking. I love the creativity it entails and the effect it has on people, such as the huge smile appearing on their faces when they taste something I have cooked for them. That's why I started this blog; I wanted to share recipes and stories about (and beyond) food with the world.

Recipes
The recipes featured on my blog range from traditional Greek recipes (naturally), to modern international ones. I enjoy many different types of cuisines and I'd say that variety is what characterizes my blog and recipes. So take a look around, I'm sure you'll find something you'll like, something that will definitely tempt you to get in the kitchen and create something delicious.

Text
Apart from writing this blog in my native language, Greek, I choose to write in English as well, because my goal is to reach as many people as possible and to be able to share and exchange ideas with them. With you!

Photography
I take all the photographs myself with my small, point-and-shoot digital camera (Casio exilim EX-Z75), though I'm looking into buying a proper DSLR; we'll see. From November 2009 until March 2013 I shot with a point-and-shoot digital camera (Casio exilim EX-Z75). From April 2013 I mostly shoot with my new DSLR camera (finally!), Canon EOS 650D. I'm not a photographer and before I started this blog the only photos I took was the occasional holiday or birthday photo. I realized though that I enjoy photographing my food and I shoot it as soon as it's cooked or prepared and in all its freshness. Well, I have to, as it disappears shortly after. My boyfriend and I eat it, as well as some, dare I say, lucky friends and colleagues (you know who you are).

Your small digital camera is pretty darn good. My small digital camera cannot go anywhere near that close to the dishes. What brand/model do you have?

As a young (Dutch/French) student (we were allowed to be slow and lazy at that time) I lived in your beautiful country (1969-1973) I try to read your blog in Greek, but unfortunately the lingo isn't what it used to be. I have been searching for a ντολμάδες recipe, but couldn't find it. A recipe for those delicious thingies would be highly appreciated!

  33. Hi,
I discovered your blog last year and since then it is one of my sources of inspiration for cooking/baking. Thanks a lot for sharing the recipes!

I also admire you for being able to be an Expat in Holland for so long. I spent three years in the same country and it has been literally the worst time of my life so far as the natives (sadly, 95% of them) are the most intolerant and unfriendly people I've ever had to deal with. Maybe Hague is different?
Anyway... good luck with everything and thanks again for revealing us your kitchen mastery!

    Best regards,

    C.

    1. Hi C. Thanks for following along and glad you like my recipes. It's sad that your experience in Holland wasn't a pleasant one. It's not easy living in a country other than your own and even though the Dutch are veeery different from Greeks, I find they are nice people. Perhaps the Hague is different, I don't know, or maybe I have gotten used to them ;)
